Also: both cases: the texture feels right. Since every period image is black and white, I am using a trial and error approach - with a few looks at profiles and restorations. However I think the texture is in the sweet spot; a little chunky and a little rough. I know it may seem to be a radical shift between green brown to green yellow but I think it is the right mix! Also also also I was able to increase the contrasting swipes without creating a hardened line. That was a challenge. Ultimately this will end up being an interpretation based on two very blurred photos and a lot of guesswork.

Bruce you are doing a outstanding job. I'm enjoying watching this painting technique come together too.

Clint, you can see the way the designs flow through these WWI aircraft to WWII easily; almost directly. The evolution of prop fighter craft began here, really, sprung up as a multinational effort. Where else could you find a French aircraft engine copied under license in a German aircraft?

I was thinking when I read what you wrote that I am trying to approach each project as the project dictates without imposing a formula. That’s tough to do and I’m not sure I’ve done it. I definitely feel camouflage brushes are for WWI aircraft and camouflage sprays are for WWII aircraft. I was looking at a photograph of two men spray gunning a Spitfire deep in the desert with no neat panel lines; one working from the ground spraying the chin area and one on the wing spraying the cowling. Real stuff. Would make a great diorama.

I try to visit the NMUSAF once a year since I only live about 3 hours from it. My two favorite sections is the early years of flight and WWII. The Great War aircraft they have on display are beautiful and you are mirroring the appearance perfectly.

Being discovered this museum also 2 hours east of me, this is in definite plans for me this summer (IF... the number of covid cases goes down below 1 %).

I plan on booking a 15 minute flight in an open cockpit aircraft as well while I'm visiting there. $100 is well with it for me. As a bonus, there's even air shows from 2 -4 pm.

Clint! I believe I have decals in 1/48 for the Fokker Dr.1 on display there! And yes Tom you should go, take a lot of photos and write up on the forum! Heck, everyone should write up museums and places to visit. Maybe we ought to have our reference section include aircraft and auto and military museums available for public inspection.
