They tend to want things fairly nice if you want to get your security deposit back. So depending on how well you upkeep the place during your time there impacts how much cleaning/patching work happens when you leave.

Right. We rented for many years here and there was nothing like that.

Thanks, Carlos—thanks, Lyle—and thanks to anyone else who may have seen my post. As far as I’m concerned, this may be Santa Monica/CA Beach specific. Let’s assume landlords have a reasonable amount of intelligence and experience and factor in what may be happening here—she’s technically a student from another country—so the landlord probably feels that adding the “like a hotel,” and the other phrase was “professionally cleaned,” which include a business card for a service—kickback, scratch my back—so the landlord probably wants to have a more than simply presentable return on the wear and tear. As much as I understand that I still find it to be annoying. That’s on me. And my aching back from sanding drywall.

In relevant news, there ain’t nothing to report here.

Fix & sand drywall? You have holes in the walls? Screw that. Nothing but a coat of paint can make it presentable enough.

Next thing, you gotta steam clean carpet or replace it. Might as well replace the kitchen cabinet and remodel the bathroom.

Your landlord is asking a lot of you.

That does indeed suck Bruce!

Great to hear she's moved in with you though Bruce - that's awesome. We all complain about our other halves now and then (and I'm sure they do about us too) but the bachelor life does tend to suck after a while - as I'm sure we all know.

Wow Bruce! That was actually very over the top for the landlord to want all that done by you. I wish you had called me to help, my help could have done all that very quickly as it is something I do for a living. Oh well, no worries; it's done. I am glad things are working out getting your girl into your place. I'm eagerly awaiting the next update on your Camel!

The briefest of notes to all who were following along with me: I’ve packed this one away to work on when my mind is a lot clearer! I love WWI models and maybe in a pinch I’ll build something from my current stock or find something that I can build more easily and simply even though that’s never been my approach! I always choose the hard way because for some darn reason that’s the way I feel I learn! By going deeper into any system of inquiry knowledge is the result. And with that know how I can better prepare for more kit building. I am truly sorry that this approach doesn’t make it easier on anyone reading and following along. Too often I see posts on Brit Modeler where the posts suddenly stop and are never followed through again. This always makes me wonder if the modeler simply threw the kit away which would be the nuclear option or if the kit was quietly abandoned. What is even more heart breaking is when I see a stupendous project that goes all the way through to the end without any form of participation by the forum. That’s never been the case here and for that I humbly thank you.

Bruce, build in the manner that pleases you most. We will tag along and comment when and where we should. But please keep on building!

Amen to Stik…

It does please me to see you stop in and see progress you’ve made. Even if you’ve stepped away for various reasons or another. I don’t worry because everybody has a busy time in between and you do post whenever you can once you have free time. Keep modeling, brother!

Honestly I read something Tom wrote about checking out MSC and I felt pain in my gut; it’s everyone’s right to go as they please, but Tom—your work and dedication to model building is truly foundational! Same for you, Carlos! Same for you, Duke! All of you guys are truly amazing!
