It’s 1 am and I am brain fuzzed from trying to sculpt an exhaust... I am in short exhausted... but I am truly excited to read these last two posts tomorrow! Thank you, John!

@Bruce: you asked about how to paint the exhaust pipes... Johns way is pretty much the perfect method before becoming a real used exhaust pipe!

I know, these last two posts by John are fabuloso! Perfection—the point where he primed the reworked hatch left me kind of stunned in a very good way!

I couldn't help but notice and I can't really tell in the photos but are you filling in that top seam on the fuselage behind the cockpit that leads back to the vertical fin?

Thanks guys! To be perfectly honest... there is a bit of exaggeration that goes on, especially at this scale. In certain places, I impart details on parts that may not actually exist on the real aircraft. For example, the landing gear legs may not have various shades of grey. But breaking up the details on these smaller parts serves to fool the viewer into thinking he is looking at something that is more complicated than it really is. Same goes for the brake line (probably overscale) and the exhaust finish too. It's a bit of fakery in the pursuit of realism, if that makes any sense.

Are you referring to the panel line that Bf109's had on the top and bottom of the fuselage? You can see a bit of the primer that I shot on the fuselage spine. I am trying to clean up that panel line and restore the rivets. Glue seams along real panel lines are difficult... it's easier to fill them in! I'll try and get a better photo.

Here's a shot of that top seam... I'm still working on restoring (lightly) the panel line and also the rivets.



The prop has been painted. I used gloss black-Tamiya AS-12 silver-MIG Scratches Effect-Tamiya Black Green in that order to impart some chipping.



Let's give the blades a bit more wear using the salt chipping technique. I brush some water onto the blades and then sprinkle some salt on. This is set aside to dry. When dry, I mist a lighter color. Usually very thinned to achieve a subtle effect. The balance between too stark and subtle can be ambiguous because it's hard to gauge what effect that lighter color is having until the salt is wiped off.



The result is a little less obvious in real life than the photos, which I've dialed up the contrast so that you can see the effect better.




Moving on to the wings, I spotted one of the few molding errors on this kit. A weird molding ridge near the top wing tip, both sides. Easy to fix with a sanding stick.

The Eduard wheel well is comprised of four parts to each side. These parts box the wheel wells in nicely. The portion of the wheel wells that accommodate the gear legs has four depressions instead of open holes.



I decided to open up these holes by drilling two holes and connecting them to form oval openings.



I regretted it once I started but with one of the holes opened up, I had to continue on. Eight holes all together.





Once the holes were finished, the wheel well parts were glued into place on the bottom of the wing.



Not a big difference but at least its noticeable.



There is nicely molded wheel well detail on the inside of the upper wings. This was painted RLM 02 Grey and given a dark wash to highlight the detail.

Yes sir ....................I'd say that you're spot on with that top side seam pal. Lookin' really good in all the other areas too.
