I think I have masks ready to cut. Still mulling around the idea of trying to mask off the black pinstripe versus a decal...I don't know. if I print these images on clear decal paper, I have the outline.

Anyway, here is the fuselage mask...three pieces, as for some reason, they would not / will not "weld" into one item. Not a biggie.



Wing masks. They will need some additional trimming, as my brain will not compute how to do it otherwise. ... The ones with the, uh, protrusion, are the upper wings the others are lower.

Custom masks? Wow!

So many ways to wreck a build!

Try using circle templates, Lyle. Not sure if there are any metal circle templates - which would be a lot easier to cut/trim than plastic circle template. Look in any craft store (Hobby Lobby, Michael's, etc...)

I have several circle templates..plastic. Looked online for a metal one but haven’t found ont yet. No biggie. The wing designs don’t to be perfectly round. The one nearest the fuselage is flattened a bit.


These are just prints I made to post and maybe use for the pinstripes. I cut the wing masks on the Sihlouette cutter using the Oramask 810 film.

Note on polishing the finish

If you want to smooth the finish try toothpaste as a polishing compound. I did this on the slot cars. I do this on almost every project. I hand polish with wet toothpaste, gently, and then wipe it off. If there is any left in the engraved areas, I wet a microfiber cloth really well, and soak the area.

I have been using really fine (2000 and up) sand paper may try this, had two ares, upper and lower wing tips, that pulled off when messing with masking thi right wing. Sanded, primed and let’s do it again.

Try toothpaste. Paste does not pull the paint the way fine sandpaper does. I think Tamiya makes a polishing compound too, but toothpaste is cheap. Your Gee Bee looks great!

Okay. It was odd that it was on the same wing, same place, upper and lower. Thanks for the kind words and advice.

I think that effect is from the angle, perhaps? The corners are tricky.
