I would try mixing grey acrylics with Future to create a soft light wash to tone down the wing root chipping. Photos I have seen of Corsairs in action in the Pacific reveal a heavy contrast coat of darker engine oil pattern on upper lower forward wing surfaces. A symphony of heavy tropical weathering effects!

The top one looks to be computer colorized, but the lower photo looks to be original color.

Thanks, Marius. I like collecting photos and your choices inspire me to go look for more. The P-47 came about partly because I started looking at P-51s on your 2017 list. Carlos is right - I almost pulled down the first photo as it is colorized. I liked the way the salt moisture aircraft engine oil and brilliant sunlight were transforming the blue into a kaleidoscope of greys. The above is color original. Were Navy photographers using Kodak? That looks like a scan of a Kodak slide film stock to me.

The chipping is great. Based on what I see in your photos, I think the blue needs to be sun faded a bit, and I suggested washes with acrylics - slightly more delicate but easier to reduce if these become too potent. I also think the washes should be heaviest where the sun is strongest, but that may be incorrect; you might need to add a pinch or two of yellow to the grey on top to warm things up.

Nice to see the salt chipping technique. I use it more for fading effects rather than paint chipping but It seems to have worked ok for you. The only thing I can say is... be careful about the salt residue! It has an annoying habit of showing up as white cloudiness after applying a flat coat.

Yes Bruce, the navy photographers were using Kodak film. I believe Kodak had a contract with the armed forces to supply them the film they needed to capture everything on film.
Keep going; this is looking great! And thanks Bruce for the great pics. I love checking it to see what you might end up posting next!
