I agree with Carlos about the autochrome look. It is an amazing look that brings out so much feeling in one who views it.

I envy you the chance to airbrush. At home, I'm still trying to re-arrange my Hobby Room so I can get back to airbrushing.

Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to spray the first color coat on which will be olive drab similar to the kit plastic; I want that to be the base not the primer. The primer is just to knock out the red. I'll follow that on Friday with the top coat which is one of the woody browns in Tamiya's RAF line up. We'll see. Fingers crossed.

Bruce I’d suggest Tamiya Khaki Drab, XF51 for the topside color on your Camel. If you’re going to be working with Tamiya.

This is the second version of his aircraft with new wings and engine. I'm thinking red nose, red ring around the cowling and a red heart on the tail fin were the pilot's requests. Oh, and he also had a "red devil" made of metal mounted on one of the machine guns. Definitely a theme here!

In this photo, the cowling certainly looks two toned. Now time for a bit of photo interpretation here… and something to ponder. Compare the known red at the center of the fuselage roundel to the cowling colors. If they used the same shade of red, the rear portion of the cowling is red, while the lip and spinner are another color.

I am hoping to paint the cowling ring tomorrow with Gunze U.S. Aircraft Olive Drab to start, then I'll follow up with my Camel Brown Mix. I'm making this post primarily to push myself to do this; I am tired of looking at the upainted, yet masked cowling.

Gotta love the warning on the hangar doors… DON’T CATCH HOLD OF TAIL BRACING WIRE.

Warning on other hangar door next to it, I can make out DON’T, then THE, and finally END.
My guess something to do with wings edges?

Wow, you have some sharp eyes, Tom! I saw the letters on the wall but I didn't "see" them! Thanks for filling in at least part of the backstory here!

Cool photo Bruce.

Looking forward to seeing some paint slung at it. I'm going to have to bite the bullet and try a biplane before too long. I really want a Gladiator to go with my other BofB builds.

I really want the Tamiya Swordfish kit in 1/48 scale but they're a bit high for my budget.
