Thank you, John. Yep. I’m trying to get precise and surgical like you! And you’re right, this is excellent practice for staying focused and measured.

And yeah, I gotta give it up for Tamiya. They did a great job on this kit, my Emil I’m doing now, and bro, I can’t wait to get into that Mustang I’ve got. She’s up next!

I haven't done a Corsair in years aside to the 1/72 scale one I gave to a colleague at work. It wasn't my best work but wanted to give it someone who would appreciate it.

The last F4U Corsair I did was way back in the 70s - the Baa Baa Black Sheep kit from the TV show. Remember that one? I believe that was in 1/32 scale and molded in dark blue. Oh yeah, it included the folded wings option.

I'd love to do another as Gregory "Pappy" Boyington's stead. With no real clear cut version - be it Lucybelle or LuLu Belle, I'll never know which one he flew in the most. From the little research I've done in the past, I suspected the USMC didn't have their own personal aircrafts during the Pacific Theater of WW2. They simply flew whatever was available to them especially in the Solomon Islands. Another tidbit, I found out that LucyBelle (or LuLu Belle) was simply a "phot op" and Pappy never flew #86 in combat. So... with so many conflicting stories surrounding Pappy's stead, there's no clear cut aircraft which he called his own. What to do, what to do....

You do the Corsair you want to do, and enjoy every minute of if. It’s a fantastic airframe -big and cool as all get-out looking- and there’s so many marking options and variants. Build yourself a Corsair and do it up like Pappy’s! I’d love to see what you do and how you did it! Heh, I’ll back this decision 100%.

And as to the aircraft, you know, I’ve mentioned this before I think but that’s what I like about them. We used what was available. Beat-up as they were. And we kicked ass. I like that. And in terms of the model, I think that’s fantastic because you almost can’t over-weather them! So many great opportunities for weathering and use of cool, new techniques and effects.

I have the Hobby Boss 1/48 Corsair that has markings for VFA-323 Death Rattlers. I'll get to it when I feel I can do it justice with the weathering.

I did it! Multi-layer chipping! I didn’t screw it up like last time!







There’s a fault or two in there that I committed, but I hid them as best I could and they don’t bother me.

I am very happy with this. I’m happy I was able to make this happen.
