Bruce, I had the same idea to use a P-38 for Color tests.
The Alpha Jets are ok, but the black is in my opinion just black, without "life".

Nevertheless I moved on with my MiG to make it more MiG-look-like. So I printed a sheer plan of a MiG-21 to get a feeling of some details. First thing was to create two tail fins.
For upcoming further modifications, I remembered the movie "Top Gun". The first dog fight took place somewhere over the Indian Ocean. That was at the time the Soviet Union still existed. The closest distance from Ashgabat in Turkmenistan to Karachi in India is round about 1700 km. The Enterprise might have been 500 km away from that coast. That means for the MiG-28, which had no external fuel tanks, 4,500 km from Russia to the US Navy carrier and return to Russia. I guess this distance is a bit out of range for such an aircraft. I like the idea more, that these MiGs started on a secret soviet aircraft carrier. That means further, I have to add an arrestor hook and maybe two wheels on the front landing gear. The wings will get some modifications to pretend they have a folding mechanism.

Yesterday night I airbrushed the white onto my Rafale A. Everything went well with using Tamiya’s gloss white. Unfortunately the pictures do not show, that the soft pre-shading worked and there is a tiny effect. Today I hope to add the anti-glare black at the cockpit area, but I need to cut some masks first.

The Mig-28 is real... Didn't you see Top Gun?

First the MiG: tail fins look sharp, Marius. Good call on the details... and creating a working back story to solve a plot problem... and second, the white looks sharp on the Rafale A, sweet! Excited to see how these both are going to be finished, one black -- one white, in 1/72. Question: you must paint natural metal finish on your models. Do you add a dark base coat, and have you experimented with different colors for the base coat? I have tested both black and brown underneath a metal top coat and I am thinking I will try navy blue on the 1/72 Horten, but I could use advice.

I sure did. It has a collapsible fin so Maverick can get extra close!

Thanks guys. I am very happy that you are all that interested in my little world.
Bruce, I am not very experienced in natural metal finishes. This time I would need your experience more. But with the Horten....most of the structure was made of wood. So maybe you should Not over-engineer it?

No worries, keep going with your own jets and I'll follow along for the ride. Jumos on the Horten are encased in metal and exhausts located on the upper wing are metal as well. Good luck with your builds and thanks for your input on using black/dark gray colors with 1/72 builds. I am scrounging around for a P-38 to use as a mule for NFM. I need to add to my experience.

Bruce, you are absolutely right about the Horten. Really, I like that discussion here so please let's keep it.
Today I tried the new Vallejo Metallics with very good result. Maybe you can try them too.

Marius, did you try the gloss black undercoat that comes with the colors, or just the colors? I'm thinking about the exhaust for the MiG when I was asking you about testing. A lot of color tests I have done are on plastic spoons or knives first and I see similar test methods online. I will try these out based on your recommendation. Cheers, mate. I'm learning a lot from your work.
