That sealant is a nice detail. I would hate to spray paint on an almost finished model but you did good!

Monty, those sprayed sealant areas look great! I tried to use the kit decals on my AMK kit and they were a major pain, I think I will give this method a shot myself. Great job with this one.

Really? AMK has them as decals, that's kinda nice. bit sad though it didn't quite work out for you. the decals might be a bit too fiddly? I guess masking and painting them works better this time.

Exquisite work! I’m curious about the Zippo fluid, Tamiya panel wash and the AK Ammo wash mixture. Is this something you mix as you go in small batches and what are your proportions? I apologize for being late to ask this question. One truly incredible gift is your fantastic level of documentation. I was not even going to ask, just start playing around with the mixture—so thank you in advance. I ask a lot of questions.

The idea behind the mix is to get a fluid and thin consistency of the paints for the panel washing. I found out that the AMMO PLW is not consistent among bottles. Some are thin enough for washing, some are rather thick and almost impossible to wash. So I had to find a way to make it flow better in the panel lines.
The Zippo fluid and Tamiya Panel Line Accent is enamel base and obviously so the AMMO PLW.
The AMMO PLW was too dark and too thick. I need to thin it down and lighten it up. That's when I used Tamiya PLA because its really thin and it can bring down the original AMMO wash a notch. I used the Zippo only if I want to thin it down more but without any penalty for altering the colors.

I am learning a lot from your work and I am grateful for the care you put into demonstrating your approach to construction and finish. I too feel there may be a “debatable” prefinishing stage before application of decals on surface; if the surface area is already smooth, I felt eliminating another stage of clear (along with the possibility of damage—as you wrote, the potential for a slow drying finish to accumulate dust and hair fibers) is worth the reduction in some cases.
