Any thoughts on how to prepare these exhausts for painting?



Also, on the opposite side exhaust group, I chipped off a piece while drilling; I added a ‘smidgen’ of Milliput Superfine White formed around an inverted drill bit, to keep the opening. I need to add another fill layer, and I wonder if I should close the opening and drill out the Milliput?

Chipped exhaust stacks are not an easy repair in many cases. Your lucky here in that they are simple tubes as opposed to some of the other shapes out there. If filling and re drilling does not work you can replaces that individual stack easily enough with some tubing. But weren’t you looking at AM exhaust stacks as an option?

I took your advice and did not re-drill—I reshaped with Milliput.

good result Bruce, some paint and weathering on top and the entire issue has been whiped painted off !

Thanks so much for your encouragement, Kari; this means a lot. Once the Milliput cures, I will very very VERY lightly sand (note to self: very very very very VERY lightly sand) the top and bottom of the repaired exhaust, then prime, check, polish, silver color coat with Gunze silver lacquer.

Not the same plane, but man, wow, color, high definition, perfectly exposed 4x5 neg...

Am really enjoying the extra effort with the sketches you've done- showing off some excellent talent there man!
