Oh but I am! Did a little bit of harness prototype work, and now I’m on the sofa enjoying a rerun of the X Files, and an ice cold Coors Banquet!

I’d suggest the darker and brighter of the two shades.

Thank you so much! I was tearing my hair out and now I feel much better. It is only a paint job after all. I do think it’s funny-ironic-truthful that the only blue sample remaining of the original color was found in the base bathroom (I hope I have that story right.) and it was darker than the color used on earlier Blue Noses.

There is some sort of system to USAAF/USAF squadron colors. I don’t know particularly what it is, but each group uses the same general colors- each squadron is denoted by red, blue, yellow, green, and black or white if there are enough squadrons assigned. Usually the colors used are the same from group to group. When I do USAF/ USAAF aircraft with those colors showing, I usually use the Testors square bottle basic colors, as those are usually a good match, or close enough.

Thanks, Carlos!
  • "In 1945 the 352nd used RAF Deep Sky Blue for the noses. Sam Sox, a former 352nd crewman, recounted how the latrines at Bodney were painted with the same blue paint as the noses. Someone checked and sure enough, the latrine was still standing and still painted blue. They used this color to repaint "Miss Helen" a restored warbird that was an original 352nd P-51D." - Rian J, Hyperscale Forums, 2009
Also on Hyperscale, Testors 1111 Dark Blue was singled out as a match for Bodney Blue.
