Dunno, but I like that "a tad out of scale"-look. I'm seriously starting to think about building a model in cartoon-style. Not as hefty as those egg planes, I'm thinking of a more discreet way. Not as obvious to the eye at first glance.Ain't easy to pull that out, though...

I think you should go for it, Torben! I was reading a build review of Revell’s old “Zero-Sen” in 1/32 where the author described three reasons for building:

We’re all modelers, but we’re all in it for different reasons. Some of us build ‘scale replicas.’ Some build models. I build kits. - Ralf Pätzold

Ralf’s words offer a basic breakdown of approaches to the hobby itself. We are all model building from a personal perspective obviously, from personal aesthetics and from our interpretation of the subject itself. As manufacturers changed to reflect demand, the kits became by turns more complex and less spirited reflections. One reason I do think both a replica and a representation are both worthy as subjects comes from the feeling from each. I do think all of the approaches should exist if the hobby is to thrive. What do I know? I read opinions online about the hobby’s decline and shudder or shiver uneasily as though someone was walking over my grave.

I think it is our responsibility as plastic kit model builders to openly engage creativity in ourselves and others—otherwise we are making a key component of our hobby diminish—and that will lead to problems eventually. I do know I shunt out “angry online model builders.” Life is too short, and frankly a kit being built with expletives flying everywhere is just not my ambrosia. It’s cock roach powder. I know I came here to this forum because it was a shield wall built by better builders than I with the greatest goal—advancement of the hobby through shared experience.

If it feels like preaching, indeed, let the words flow to become actions.

Oh, yes, this has everything to do with what you wrote, Mighty T. It truly does. We all know how to build kits.

That throttle lever looks nice but I agree... a tad big. But comparing it to the photo that Carlos posted, I think it works fine.

Thanks for your comments, John—I agree with you and everyone else too. The “bar” that the pilot grips is overscale. I remember telling myself to tack it in place temporarily but I went ahead and used CA to make the bond. That was definitely me being impatient!

I would say instead Bruce, the grip looks great and the size is perfect! It’s just the remaining cockpit that is too small! :-)

Kari! Happy Friday! I sincerely appreciate your words—and I definitely miss seeing your work here. Your cockpits... and now I think your engines always have such a reality to them. I was thinking I need to link your butcher bird to my phone. There is engine gold in there... or in your case engine oil and grease!

Have you ever built 1/24 scale anything?

Thanks Bruce for the kind words, 1/24 is a scale ( except regarding cars ) I have never built. Might change when Airfix new 1/24 Hellcat one day arrives to the stores...
