Any morning where I get to listen to Frank Zappa and work on models is a good one in my opinion. And I’m pleased with the fix. You can barely tell there was ever an issue. It’s a fault, which I repaired and hid thanks to the helpful advice and encouragement from you guys here, and now I’m back to this sweet baby in full swing!

Well brother, I was gonna do mismatched wheels but the kit parts are smooth tires. I incorrectly assumed they’d have tread. I’m thinking of ordering some resin wheels, with plain and smooth tires. That’s a maybe right now.

As to next steps, the prop has been prepped for metal and sprayed:



I have two more of these bad-boys in my bin. So I’m gonna test out salt chipping on the back of it, and do my standard ops chipping on the leading edge on the front. That’s for the prop.

As for the aircraft, here’s the next steps:

1. Seal her in clear

2. Leave her alone for 24 to let it cure

3. Salt weathering

4. Oil filter/fade

5. Stains and pigments

6. Landing gear and gear doors installation

7. Windscreen and canopy installation

8. Antenna installation

So I still have miles to go, but I’m truckin’ right on through!

That IS a very cool effect! I don't have any photos of actual Corsair props, but I was thinking that most of the wear would be toward the edges and tip of the blades. That's one issue that I have with the hairspray method... it tends to chip heaviest where ever the hairspray happens to pool the most, which is usually in the center of the blade and not the edges.

Yeah, this is kind of a scorched earth method, the salt kinda just did what it wanted to. Cool part is, I can knock it back to where it’s more accurate pretty easily. Or just redo it. That’s what windex is for.

Yes, I would imagine that the worst scouring would be along the leading edges where the blade cuts into the abrasive dust...

Look at the back side of this propellor in Africa. The coral sand in the solomons would have a similar effect...

The shot I posted is the rear side of the prop. And it looks to be wearing aboutikebthat one there, just not as badly (yet). Still, I think I want to do it again.
