So late last night she got dot faded, with just a little bit of white, and a clear coat. I’m happy with what it did to the insignias:



I began today with a pin wash on the underside:



Payne’s Gray oils on the blue wing tips, raw umber on the gray belly.

After that, I went back top-side for panel line washes, just raw umber and burnt umber, along with grime build-up and fuel leaks.

This aircraft was ridiculously dirty, and I’m having a ball!

Weathering is coming along great, Kenny! The layers are all adding up to create incredible depth to your work. I'm glad to see you incorporate multiple layers to your weathering process... it really makes a big difference to the overall impact since it is hard to isolate any one technique.

Bro, that’s a necessity for me. I tried doing a pin wash after dot fading on my paint mule, but the cleanup started wiping away the white from the dot fading. No bueno! So yeah man, it just reaffirmed to me a point of best practices: seal each layer, please.

And thank you! These pics are after going back and gently Lightning the stains with mineral spirits. They looked a bit too heavy handed previously. But I think I got em justnright, here.

There’s still a ways to go yet, but I’m happy with the top and I’m keeping it. Next comes grime around the cowling area, and exhaust stains. I’ll attach the exhaust stubs once that’s done.

Just curious... do you know what those three circular things are on the bottom between the exhaust exits? I'm not familiar with the Corsair but have one on the shelf... wonder what those things are? Might be an opportunity to add some depth to the bottom by differentiating them from the white bottom?

I’m not sure actually, but I’ve been kicking around the idea of sound something with them because that’ll definitely make it look more interesting.

The only image I could find of this area is of a restored F4U-1a (BU17995), which may or may not mean anything...

Not sure what that could be... hmmmm... it’ll look neat with a wash on it though!

Also- it’s weird to see a Corsair so clean.

What type of starter did the Corsair have? They could be starter charges.
