Regarding the fit issue I'm with John. Fuselage comes first, interior parts have to submit. Every surgery on the outer parts leads to more work.

Funny with that ring... I have/had exactly the same problem with my Revells Fw-190, it just did not sit nicely..

I guess this armour ring should fit as shown. Don't fill and sand it!

I'm pretty sure that armor ring doesn't sit flush but a bit proud of the cowling.

But perhaps reduce the sharpness of the trailing edge of the armored cowling ring a bit, as per Kari’s photo. Primer and paint should take care of the rest.

Good morning or evening depending on one’s time zone, I want to thank Carlos, Lyle, Joe and Torben (yes, your friendly and funny moderator droid) for your comments earlier—and thank Kari, Thomas and Clint for your comments later. I could have written “Thanks, everyone,” but I really would much rather be thorough, especially whenever the comments are poignant, funny and sincere.

Regarding the armored section piece of cowling, “Wow!” Again, Thank you Kari, Thomas and Clint for your comments as well as advice. I was going to show you what was affecting the fit—there are well now there were because I eliminated them, two injector pins at the 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock positions inside that ring—both pushing the ring away from cowling, so I had to carefully, very, very carefully, dig these out. I would have, should have, photographed these pins, but it was just after midnight when I started grinding these away with Dad’s smallest K&S file.

Grinding helped, but I was hampered because the edge thins out and I did not want to lose the edge. So mindful of that, I flipped the piece over on my desk and trued the edge up as much as I could. I was also thinking that what needs to “sell” that armor ring would be a tight fit, bit not a smooth fit, if that makes sense.

Let me also send special thanks to Thomas who is quite extraordinary for being there even though he is sick. Thank you, Thomas. I sincerely appreciate your dedication to the forum! May your health improve quickly!

I am glad you had a good night’s sleep, my friend. I stayed up late fiddling with the shape of this armored ring. I know it’s usually not done but I sure would love a kit designer to add their notes or even the way Kari did add a photo. The ring is not only featured prominently it is a bit of a pain in the butt to fit. At least it was for me. What’s interesting is that the beautiful shade of robin’s egg blue plastic is an almost match for Luftwaffe’s sky blue (65?), interesting and perhaps intentional, too.
