1/48 Revell F4U-4 Corsair

I pre-shaded this this thing but found out later that it wouldn't make any difference as the shade of dark blue covered it all up no matter how thin I coated it.

Thanks Lyle. I'm not totally happy with the fit of the starboard wing but there's only so much I can do without re-manufacturing another model myself. lol

Hey Jimmy: I'm a lot further along than this but this build progressed quicker than normal because I want to be done well before Christmas so I don't have to stress out so much. I have been making sure I get all the bench time possible to beat the deadline by getting between 30min to 1hr Mon.-Thurs and between 2-4 hours Fri-Sun.
I'll remember that tip about post shading though and thanks dude.

Thanks mlp! I started this whole mess on the 27th of September and am just shy of finishing so this will be my quickest build yet. It usually takes me about 4 months to get this far but have been pushing myself a little harder as this thing is a Christmas gift.

This next part really ticked me off. Initially it's a Revell mistake..............but I shoulda caught it. I had glossed and applied the decals.





Now this all looked ok to me until I saw the problem. Do any of you guys see the issue with this decal instruction page?



At first glance you may not. Keep in mind that the aircraft designation on the side of the aircraft is 24 WE. The stooopid decal instructions have you applying 14 MR to the wing......................of the same friggin aircraft!!!!

I tried and tried to strip the decal off of the wing but got to the point where I was scared to go any further. I painted over the decal and re-glossed it and then applied the correct 24 WE decal exactly over it.



Looks like I got by with it. A kit like this doesn't need any additional help from an incorrect instruction sheet.

The wheels are box parts from a Profipack Hellcat. I had to go with something a little extra here. Just didn't like the overinflated inner tube look of the Revell wheel/ tire assys (shown just to the right of the Eduard wheels).

The new-tool stuff RoG has put out lately is VERY good...their 72nd JU88 kit is a work of art---beats the crap outta the Hasegawa offering.

My how the times have changed. I've heard nothing but good stuff out of newer Revell kits from other builders and reviews and would give one of those kits a go, as far as sinking ALOT of time and energy into. I went alot further with my Monogram Dauntless kit last year than I normally do with Monogram stuff but in the end I knew what I had and where my limits where with it given the date on the molds (which are in the 60's as well).

I'd like to see that 111 being built when you decide to go that route Jim.

Keep in mind that as far as I can tell its only the Revell of Germany stuff that is getting re-tooled...I have their B-17 and Lanc as well in 72nd and both are cherry. I hope they do the 111 in 72nd as well...
