Yup, the Typhoons assigned to bomb carrying units (as opposed to the rocket firing squadrons) were nicknamed "Bombphoons". Fairly early in their service career after the rockets came along, for several reasons it was decided that squadrons would specialize in either carrying bombs or firing rockets, and not do both.

Nice job on the dust filter...my extensive (and expensive) research reveals it wasn't popular and rarely used, however...

Lol! But it looks real cool! Especially the cuckoo clock doors on the filter... ;)

Maybe you would like to sand off the copyright writing on the lower wing: C MMI 1969. Man, this moulds are 42 years old, but still look great!

You detail work on the radiator adds a lot to this very visible area, well done! I like to follow you doing this kit; somehow reminds me to my childhood.

Thanks Thomas! But I will not sand those off. That is one of my trademarks on my old R/M builds is to leave those on. At least if don't sand them away while fixing a nearby seam of some sort. Although I must confess that this kit has been in my stash for many years, possibly 10 or more, so the molds were only 30 years old or so at the time of purchase. The boxing is marked 1995, so anytime between then and when Monogram re popped the kit in it's original boxing in 1999. I have one of those in my stash as well, with an Eduard PE set to doll it up with.
The last time I built this kit was nearly 40 years ago or so, so it certainly has sparked a few childhood memories of mine as well...

Thanks Mikey. Even if you go straight OOB, I think that you'll have fun with it. Enjoy

today's photo update of the work I did on this kit in the mornings before my job during the work week...

Yellow airbrushed on for the wing leading edge ID markings

Image

Image

final fiddly bits off the sprues, mold seams cleaned up and attached to toothpicks for painting...

Image

clear parts dipped in Future and dried overnite in a dust free place

Image

final details added to the cockpit area: a PE gunsight, some PE and strip styrene canopy hood slide tracks

Image

and a shot with the prop in place to show how beefy this beast will look... :wow:

Image
painting will commence soon here after some dad duties...

Here are my evening updates... painting has begun

a coat of Model Master Sea Grey Medium on the lower surfaces

Image

and on the lower surface parts to be added later

Image

now you may notice a slightly different tone on a portion of the rear fuselage- Iused Humbrol Medium Sea Grey there to represent 1944 ID markings that had been overpainted in early 1945 as specified by 2 ATAF directives on 3 January. The Humbrol version of the color is not so bluish

Image

then I went to work with Flat Black...
the propellor

Image

and the cockpit top decking

Image

Image

you can also better see the PE canopy hood slie track railing here

Image

I'll be back to work on this tomorrow...
