HUGHES HK-1 HERCULES, Revell, 1:200


I am very interested in Howard Hughes's aircrafts and I shot this Revell Spruce Goose several years ago on Ebay. Originally this kit was released by Entex in 1972. Since then it has been poped up several times under different labels.
The kit has engraved panel lines and a very good fitting. It has also a very clear windshield nur no interior. Status right now is I opened almost all windows and started to scratch the cockpit. This is a crazy challenge in that scale.
Note the comparison to an A380 at same scale.

1/200 Scale! I had to look this up. It’s the same scale used for classic aircraft models, the official kind used by airlines, right? My first thought was “incredible work—are those seats REALLY that small?” Actually, first two thoughts, if we are gonna be precise. Also just an FYI, I love that you box up your work in a single thread, that’s important and I want you to keep doing that, but I feel the Matchbox Airfix HB 1/72 challenges are very different from Howard Hughes for you, so my next thought was, “why is this not in a separate thread?” Ultimately I decided I am just so excited to see this work here that an answer does not matter. What does matter is the incredible level of detail. Wow! The detail! Those seats look amazing!!! Are those seats REALLY THAT SMALL? How do you fabricate seats from plasticard that small? How is that possible? Plus the seats look great, Marius. They really do. I know I’m skipping over the substantial riser modifications to the cockpit area but wow are those seats REALLY that small?

Nice! The Spruce Goose! I’ve seen that thing a few times, first when they removed her from the long term hangar she sat in and sat partially disassembled on Terminal Island next to the Long Beach Naval Station. Then later when she was reassembled and on display next to the Queen Mary.

You’re doing a great job with scratching up the new interior for this big bird. And that is exactly what she is, a very big bird!

Brilliant work Marius! That is some amazing scratch work. Magnificent!

Now if only someone would release that plane in 1/72 scale!

Oh man.....great start for 2018! I want one of those to put on my shelf. Hughes was a special man in aviation...a bit nutzo in later life, though. There are hundreds of good interior pics available, too!
