You are right as that is BS. I've seen 'em in worse places though. How bout on a textured seat or in a corner on a textured floor? It's on a car but you get the point.



I managed to sand away a lot of it on the drivers side and covered the one up on the passengers side but still.......

This is what it originally looked like on the seat but you can see it CLEARLY on the floor! What tha heck???



I managed to cover the ones up on the floor with floor mats but I hear you loud and clear. Total BS. This was on a vintage AMT kit but I would have expected better from a newer Tamiya kit.

Total BS, bro. Total BS. And you know me, I’m not one to complain about kits. Every kit has minor faults. Hell, you should see what the lower portion of my 1:32 Emil’s nose looks like! I’ll be in filling/sanding purgatory forever when I seal that bad boy up. But this is just ridiculous!

Ah well. At least there’s some more good news-

As to the scouring on the prop, I am much happier with this:



I’ll have to touch up the silver but that’s okay. This is the part of the build where the little things come up.

You both raise great points and those examples from Mustang are amazing. What a challenge from these kits. I was thinking maybe landing gear covers on the Corsair cover those sinful marks but I have no idea how or why AMT left those marks in such prominent locations... I’m having flashbacks to an AMT Enterprise kit (shudders).

I've dialed back on the chipping on props, unless it is photographically documented in a certain pattern. At the same time, I've started to use salt fading to add some wear to the blades.

Chipping is harder to do on the smaller scales because it is harder to get those smaller-sized chips. I've experienced a lot of variation in the hairspray technique. Sometimes, I'll get lovely small chips and at others, it comes off in big flakes. I've seen really good results using a fine sponge and I plan on using this technique to augment the chipping on my D-9 fuselage and wing roots.

I like what you've done with the back of the blades. It's an effect that we've seen documented in photos but you rarely see it modeled.

Those K-4 (and D-9) blades were wooden weren't they? I was always pretty careful about the chipping as well, especially on those late war birds that weren't in service for that long of time

There are also covers that go on the front of the strut. They’ll obscure the view enough to keep them from glaring. So this is good at least. The problem in terms of filling them, is there isn’t what I consider to be a safe way of sanding the fills to conform with the shape of the strut, being the landing gear is already assembled and attached. What a pain though, for real. I’ll figure something out.
