No worries about your response. I just speak from the perspective of a former soldier, collector/fan of US WWII stuff, and someone who looks from those angles at the realism of a diorama. I know my critiques can come across online as sniping, when they are meant in a curious sort of way that writing cannot convey as the tone of voice can when spoken.

Thanks for the welcome back! I'm just finishing up the photo work from my trip so I haven't been able to resume modeling just yet. 3,000 photos is a lot to process but I really enjoy this part of photography. I brought a Canon 5D Mark IV with me along with an assortment of lenses (24-105 f/4 IS, 50 f/1.4, 85 f/1.2 and a 70-200 f/2.8 IS). I shoot in RAW and process my photos in Lightroom.

As unofficial photographer for the trip, I try to capture/document the various aspects of our stay in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. As I process batches of photos, I post them on my Facebook page in albums and then eventually create a slideshow of images. When I'm done, I'll have posted maybe 1,000 photos spread across 11-12 albums. I'm not a great photographer by any means but I enjoy doing it. Here's a a small sample of some of the images from the trip...

I miss Canon lenses, a little.

One combination I enjoyed was adapting Contax series lenses to Canon. The color rendition was exquisite.

What a wonderful selection of frames, chosen between figures and landscapes. My favorite is the combination of figure within landscape because everything — all the visual details — are natural, and the figure is doing something wonderfully evocative in the natural setting, but the focus is the great sky unfolding mysteriously above. A self portrait?

Thanks Bruce! I do love the 85, especially on a full-frame sensor. It was a little bit "long" on my 7D. The figure is not a self portrait. Just someone admiring Issyk Kul Lake in the morning and I just happened to capture the moment. He may be taking his own photo on his phone.

Your macro photography is exquisite, Kari, I learn so much from how you and John determine the “step by step” in a series of modeling photos; it is not simply a point and shoot situation when you are handling detail parts... and you gents know how to get your shots!
