Scruffy, thanks for the suggestions. Those are the two options that seemed to come to my mind as well. Who said modelling wasn't fraught with tough decisions. . . .huh?

Yup... drill out the broken off part. Cut off the replacement part to match the break. Drill the replacement strut, and use a piece of brass rod to connect the two. Do not actually attach the replacement part until the end of construction, painting, etc. to reduce risk of repeat damage. Brass rod/wire is much easier to cut and work with than paper clips. Hobby Lobby carries the stuff.

Went back at this thing today. The masks that are supplied are a love/hate thing. It is almost impossible to find the appropriate piece. Oh well, I make 'em fit.

Canopy masking comes right after dentist surgery. But there are not many things that are more rewarding than peeling off the masks after the final coat of clear.

One of the advantages of brush painting models (there has to be SOME) is that I very rarely do any masking - I'd have painted it in freehand then cleaned off the excess with a cocktail stick - you have my sympathies Lyle!

Yep and yep on both counts. I also have brush painted the canopy lines and hen cleaned them up with a wooden stick.

I've tried that, but with toothpicks. I can't seem to remove the paint with them. Wish I could.

If you use acrylic paints, you'll have better luck at that.

Weird stuff going on with my page on this. Trying to re-build with images from Postimage. All was good until I try to replace or even edit the existing image/post on page two. Post displays fine until I edit anything on it and try to Preview or Submit. Then I get the 403 Forbidden error. Strange. Must kill a chicken and glue the feathers to the computer monitor frame.
