You may have this, but it's useful to see the kinds of chipping on the wing root as well as on the fuselage below the canopy. I don't think those chip marks are from the GI's "Wingwalkers," either.

That's an awesome photo of a 262, Bruce. Very high quality and rare to have an above-the-wing perspective. That comic strip IS inspiring. Great artist. Based on some of the subtle characteristics of the 262 (shape and orientation of the ejection chutes, canopy opening on correct side, shape of the tail plane), it's obvious that Mr. Wood knew his aircraft.

Is the aircraft late war production, John? The exterior canopy cover looks a little darker then the fuse. I read an article from IPMS Stockholm which I will find that stated all late war canopy frames were RLM66. The profile by Tom Tulles who knows his color schemes suggests otherwise. Found it. B/W photos are tricky, but your reference sure looks like a different color to me. This photo I found last night was more to show wing chipping, but the canopy looks darker here as well:



Also apologies for asking this question now! Maybe I missed a discussion on the other forum... maybe this is not even a discussion because it is known answer... but I was curious! Cheers. And I just remembered that an expert on that Yellow 3 in particular advised you on the profile! Apologies again, but still the canopy framing looks dark grey to me. Was this even a question?

I wanted to get the mottles right. The use of custom masks made it fairly simple to do. The Portrait cutter is a great tool. I've also designed a set of Werknumber masks. They are on the small side so I'll have to see if I can get a set of usable masks out of them.

The question of darker canopy frames has never come up on this build. I've heard of late Bf 109's having dark grey canopy frames but never on 190D-9's. Hard to tell on that reference photo. The fuselage hump behind the canopy also looks darker than the rest of the fuselage but I'm pretty sure it was the same color. FWIW, Yellow 3 was a very early production 262.

More markings have been applied using masks.



The Werk Number is speculative based on four possibilities. This was a custom mask cut with the Portrait cutter.



The Death's Head logo is a decal from the Trumpeter sheet. I'll be using the kit stenciling as well.



Remember the horizontal stabilizers that were previously painted? They do not match the rest of the aircraft due to the difference in base coats.

The tail stabilizers have been re-painted. I skipped the base black step and went straight to silver. These have not been given the Micromesh treatment yet.




I pulled the stabilizers off to let them fully dry. The model was given a light gloss coat (Alclad Aqua Gloss) in preparation of the stencil decals.

Man that is really looking great now that the markings go on.

This just keeps getting better I'm learning alot too.

Thanks guys! Hard to believe I started this kit over a year ago. Much longer than my normal build time but I guess I have to figure in the six month break I took from modeling. So six months? I guess that is about right for me on a 1/32 scale build. This one is definitely on the downhill side toward completion. After the stencil decals go on, I'll do some weathering.
