Upon further looking with a photoshop to change the lighting, I will need to touch up the splotch and add one back.... oh well

Ok the game plan so long as I don’t frag it up, should be an easy fix and then I can move on.

Same pictures here is the red marks are where I need to touch up by adding a little bit the the splotch high up to give the proper look and then the lower red mark is to put back the splotch I removed, then if all goes well I can decal.





I may give a quick spray to tone down the RLM78 cover up with just a hint of RLM76, then go back with RLM80 for the splotch repair, brush paint the over spray on the canopy frame with RLM79 and fingers crossed it can be saved before I have to resort to more drastic measures (no, not Lyle’s hammer!).

Well tonight was one hell of a night... This build has been a love hate relationship, what was supposed to be an easy task turned into a royal pain in the ass. The first picture shows what ended up being done three times. Actually, this part could hve all been aboided had I just double checked my air pressure and made sure I had it set to 8 psi like I was supposed to to get the nice splotches instead of the blast.

3 times I did this part:


Then I finally got a head out of my ass and got the splotches spraying correctly and then added a few more to even out both sides. I ended up getting a little “slag” on the left side fuselage [had to touch up with little dabs of paint)where I had touch up so many times that I ended up just saying “f-it” since I am past the point of making it perfect and just want this done and over with. Nothing to do with the kit, just stupid paint issues that could have easily been avoided. Oh well, moving along.





I did at one point contemplate how hard would I have to throw it for it to fly.... Just going to chalk it up as lesson learned and keep on chugging along.

Ok enough whining, time to put a funny spin on this. If you look around the number “1” on my build, you will see the “slag” I was talking about. Yup it’s there, but there is photo evidence of similar slag on twar time version too:
(Look around the “4” mark.)

I know, it is because the photo is damaged.

Nah, going to keep working on this til it’s done. What I need to do is mix up some paint to get as close as I can to the color on the fuselage to cover the slag damage. Thinking a smidge of black mixed in the the 78, maybe a little 76 in there too so I get the right tone of color and then thin it out and apply to the 4/5 spot on the fuselage side. Then this way when I apply the wash it should just blend in enough where it is really not noticeable.

Game plan is to do the next Emil as black 8 with the red outline trop and my F-2 as an early trop. Just need to get paint for the 1942+ 78 and 79 colors as they are a different hue. AK has the color and so far no complaints with the 66 I have. Even though the Emil is my favorite version of the 109, the Friedrich kit has me wanting to jump in to it now (bit gotta wait).

For those wondering, I still have several Emil kits in the stash(though to be built at a much later date: E-3 to be done as a Swiss shark mouth, several E-4/7 to be done in a wide variety of schemes. Still have another F-2 and two G-6 models as well.

Decals are on, not a lot of them are used to what I am guessing was they got painted over in the war. Things like the wing walk border, some aircraft had the octane rating painted over as well.

Can’t wait to wash and make this dirty! Did a little in a few areas already and I like how it changes the tone as if it was also a filter. After that I will make a special mix of paint that is a sand color to dust it, give some North African exhaust staining (maybe not quite that much) and hopefully wrap this up! I swear, this gloss coat is too slick, already dropped this one inch over the table and have had to glue the tail wheel back on for the second time.

Time to start another build during the wait time! Perfect day to do so.

Oh that’s looking good with the markings on. Weathering desert aircraft is fun. Lots of fading, scouring, and dust!
