Is that bare metal foil? Good luck with that- your plan sounds like a good one!

Yes, Bare Metal Foil..gave the Molotov pen a try.... looked like Tammy Faye Baker’s makeup.
To make each build less crappy than the last one. Or, put another way, "Better than the last one, not as good as the next one!"..

Looking good. Yes, Tommy does decals in his spare time, often giving up modeling time to do it. Unusual for his decals to disintegrate. Try spraying clear over them.
