It’s getting better though!

So I’m sitting here looking at today’s work on BIG HOG, and it occurs to me that there isn’t much in the way of modulation or tonal variation in this paint scheme I’ve done. Have a look at it when compared to TOJO...

I think I like the job I’ve done with BIG HOG better.

I probably could have baked more tonal variation into it by mottling other colors underneath the main colors when I was building them up, but that runs contrary to the “Use fewer layers of paint” vibe that I’m going for with this project.

I look at TOJO like a mile marker on the road. My newly-finished Zeke is lightyears down the road from that mile marker. Back then with TOJO I was going bananas with the black basing. Great technique, that. However, in the case of TOJO I think I was overdoing it and not seeing the forest AND the trees. Make sense?

This is different. Honestly, I’ve had so many problems getting a dam Corsair off my workbench I didn’t go into this thinking I had to pull out every trick I knew. In fact, it was more a case of me wanting to take a new trick or two I’d learned just a little bit farther.

I appreciate the comments on my Zeke. The feedback has uplifted me. I like the fact with that airplane that when I weathered it I didn’t go overboard. And that’s the case here too, only moreso- smaller chips, fewer chips, finer chips. I don’t plan on going heavy with the oils either, just enough oils to tie it all together. Wabisabi, “less is more”, whatever you want to call it, my foot has eased-up off the gas pedal a bit and I’m cruising with this one in a more measured way.

And I’m thoroughly enjoying this project.

It’s nice to be happy working on a Corsair again.

Its interesting to read your thoughts on your progress Kenny - I agree it's very easy to go overboard with weather but I think you got it just right with that Zero, and this Corsair is looking spot on too - looking forward to seeing more.

sorry to hear about your foot - that sucks but I'm glad it's getting better. I had a bad sprain myself a while ago and was limping for weeks so I know how you feel. Thankfully you don't paint with your feet!

Thank you stewart! Most especially for the mora support. I feel like I’m whining, but I like to do stuff, get around, chase my kids, go to the gym, and I’m kind of chair/couch-bound. That kind of sucks. And I’m sorry you had to deal with that mess too! Feet hurt so bad when they get injured. But like you said- I don’t punt with my feet!

Amazing work, going to have to spend more time reading through all the details.

All the heavy lifting paintwork-wise is complete. I’ll need to do the landing/formation lights, and some small touch-ups, but at least this is all knocked out. I’ll clear coat later on, do touch-ups and lights this weekend, and get started on the markings next week.
