Hey, I am pretty much speechless since I first saw these posts at 11:45 am today. I liked the look and idea of using different base coats to potentially suggest different repair areas, different paint stocks, but not on your project specifically. I believe the silver coat is exactly what was necessary to extract the level of detail, honor the design and nail the look of the painted aircraft prior to usage. This was on its second assignment right? After the diagonal stripe was painted out it was assigned somewhere new?

I'm not quite following you Bruce. Can you re-state the question?

My mistake. I think you answered this earlier, though. I need to back up and look through the build documentation but I am pretty sure in the history of the aircraft it was reassigned to be a bomber? Sorry, I was not clear. I thought maybe when it was reassigned it was repainted in several spots on each side of the fuselage? Apologies.

Ah yes.. that's what you meant by second assignment! III./KG(J) 54 was initially a bomber group. As such, Yellow 3 carried bomber markings such as letter codes on either side the fuselage crosses, a squadron emblem under the windscreen and a diagonal stripe across the mid fuselage. When the unit was converted to a fighter group, the bomber markings, with the exception of the squadron emblem were painted over. That's what the darker green areas are supposed to represent on my build.

Oh holy cow this is beautiful.
I’m really, really loving that spray over bare metal. That just looks gorgeous to me. You’ve executed this wonderfully.

Thanks Bruce! Some white balance issues but nothing we can't sort out.

Those are processing issues, I think? What’s your developing process? Light Room, right? To be honest, these photos are amazing, John!

Yeah, I can deal with whatever I need to do in post with Lightroom. My initial photos of Yellow 3 that I posted in the Light Box thread came out noticeably greener than the above close-up shots. So I just need to establish a good white balance point. Most model kits come in Neutral Grey so maybe I can find a piece of spare plastic to set my white balance target. Or pick up a grey card.
