Great interview John. Very interesting.

I must be one of the few who don't see anything complicated in this Hobby. While I strive for some measure of accuracy, I build for the sheer enjoyment of the hobby and the thrill of seeing another few models sitting on the completion shelf. I guess I would rather spend more time at the workbench than pouring over pages and pages of pictures, documents and other resources before moving on with a build. Not that there is anything wrong with that. It is what separates the Master like John from mediocre guys like me.

Way to go John, you've given me a lot more insights to think about in this hobby.

We all have different motivations and approaches to this hobby. I think the interviews help bring that diversity out. As a hobby, we have to enjoy what we do. I don't consider myself an accuracy-nut. I like to be accurate to a certain degree but, for example, I'm not going to make sure that all of hydraulic lines in the Corsair wheel wells connect to the right component and that they are all accounted for. For that area of the build, I just want to create an "impression" of reality without having to pore through technical manuals. There are builders who are compelled to go that extra step and I admire and applaud it but it won't be an approach that I'll be adopting. So keep enjoying what you do!

Me too... I love the research, sometimes for the technical details, but usually more for the tale of the machine and its operator(s).

Me too. In fact sometimes I feel let down when finishing a model. Then I remember I have a couple hundred more lol.

When it comes to the research, I also love reading about the use of the machine and the men who used it more than the technical aspect. That only helps if I need to understand a technical aspect of the machine itself. Otherwise, I like reading about the encounters and battles such machines experienced with their crews.
