Count the horizontal panel lines from the bottom of canopy line downward to the real thing and make the judgment from there. My guess it really doesn't matter just as long you build without worrying about the minor details for accuracy.

It might be nice to preserve the kit pieces and finish them to fit in place.

From that angle, the canopy hood seam looks to be in line with the horizontal stabilizers. Just use that as your reference point. Don’t worry if you’re off by a fraction of a millimeter.

And boy does the yellow look dark in that b&w photo. I wonder what sort of film that was used.

It looks to me like the bottom is even with the top longeron on the framework. That would be the logical place to put it, as well as the horizontal stabilizer.

Awesome project Bruce, thanks for sharing.
I still would like to see a Gee Bee Z in 1:72. I know there is a resin Z out there but much too expensive. Gee Bees in small scales would be perfect for my 3d printer. Nevertheless difficult as I haven't got any reliable drawings.

Enough from my side. Keep on working on yours. I want to see how it looks with colors and decals on. Decals BTW look pretty good imo.
