I started moving on to cockpit detailing so that when I'm finished with it I can turn it back over and start on some of the finicky details on the bottom of the interior tub. Just started thinking about the order of the build and how I want to go about it to ease in overall construction of this aircraft. Gonna have some body work to do on the fuselage and I don't want to do all this body work with the cockpit/ landing gear bays all installed.

I started out with a black interior followed by a coat of Model Master RLM 66 enamel based paint that I had on the paint rack. Man.....what a FLIPPIN' disaster THAT started out to be!! I feel pretty comfortable with my ability to lay down a smooth paint finish but no matter how I thinned this crap or at what air pressure I shot it at it came out freekin' GRAINY! Oh man I was pissed!! I spent the better part of an hour leveling the paint out with the side of a toothpick drug across the paint that was on the side walls and what I could do on the flooring. After that....I went back with my tried and true Badger gray primer for cryin' out loud. It went on smooth and although it's not a perfect match for RLM 66 I feel that I can put it in that range with a mild wash. There's really no room for error when one goes to the length of detailing that's been done here. One wrong move is like a friggin' wrecking ball that affects more than just the area being currently worked on. That....was a close one!!

LOL!!! I'm not Lyle. It looks like I made it through that blunder all well and good. Whew!!

won't go into the morning I'm having that started with trying to carry a mocel (Italeri XB-70) downstairs. Then the Badger quit, then.....well you know how it goes. Getting ready to spray the roof, hood and left side of the Impala. That should go well.

Joe, I'm glad you managed to get it fixed. If this is an interior color, chances are nobody is gonna know the difference, even if you don't get it to RLM66 specs.

Interesting Clint, I've had nothing but success with Model Master. That's why I'm sad to see them go. Until I find a suitable replacement, my quality, for what it's worth; is gonna drop. Probably my rate of completion too.

Lyle, I'm sorry to hear of the issues; I know how you feel. Yesterday I tried to get a couple models finished and I ended up making one step forward and two steps back. Hopefully today I'll be able to get them over the line. Good luck on your spraying.
