The landing gear covers have been riveted. Check out the stress marks that were caused by me pushing down on the rivet wheel.

In terms of riveting, I've saved the most intense for last. The wing bottom took a long time at the drawing stage. I had to wipe one side off completely and start over because it wasn't matching the other side. Once drawn, the actual riveting doesn't take too much time.

Again, the wing bottom are sanded smooth and then given a pastel wash to check the work.

Just to compare, here is the wing bottom without any riveting work.

Am I the only one here that finds riveting a worthwhile effort? The added detail is significant and I consider it standard practice for my 1/32 builds. And I much prefer the effect of the manually applied rivets compared to rivets that are molded into the kit. They are smaller, sharper and hold a wash better than molded rivets.

John, amazing work!

As for your question? I’ve tried a couple of times and just can’t get it. The riveting tool seems to have a mind of its own. I’ve not thought of, or tried, marking the area with pencil. Is it worthwhile? Sure. If you want to do that. It is your build.

Looks magnificent! Yeah, on a model this scale, riveting is almost a must. In my scale, They just can't be seen and any attempt would make them look oversized. That being said, I do know of people who have added rivets to 1/72 scale aircraft and made them look right.... how I don't know.

If you can go in a straight line without slipping off track. I know that would happen to me.

Awesome work as ever John!

I think in 1/32 it's certainly worth effort, as you've aptly shown, I'm not sure if it would be worth it in smaller scales though :hmm: It's not something I've ever thought about tbh - mind you, I've yet to master re-scribing.

Thank you Lyle! So you tried riveting without guide lines? That's like driving at night without headlights... not surprised that it didn't work out!

I'm not sure I would do it but I can see it worth trying in 1/72 scale. The molded rivets on the IBG Fw190D-9 were noticeably overscale in my eyes but not grossly so. The rivet wheel yields much more subtle results so it might work, in certain situations, in 1/72 scale.

Yup! It works for me!

I'm always slipping off track. My rivet lines are definitely not perfectly straight but they don't have to be perfect to be visually effective.

I've riveted 1/48 scale models and the result is still effective and subtle, IMO.

Very nice John, agreed, that definitely works in 1/48. :shoutout: I'm sure you'd manage to pull it off in 1/72 as well.
