Well chaps, use enough plastic cement on a plastic part 0.3mm in diameter and it’s not gonna like it. Oh brother! Time to bring out scrap brass tube and superglue. Everything fits but I lost the diamond shape in the center where I assume the wooden piece needs to be thicker to brace. I could tweak this part with putty after it cures overnight. It’s almost almost almost almost ready. It does fit inside the fuselage I’m just tired and still sick and I wanna watch Stranger Things even though that’s been a bit of a disappointment so far.

To be clear, brass is cemented to brass in a T shape. I built the stirrups on the brass first by reusing what I finessed last night. None of this will be seen in the cockpit when it's closed but somehow this is the most important part of the build right now! Why? Also, I really think "in situ" is just a fancy way of saying, "I've completely botched this part up, now I have to hand drill it by eye and measure by eye." Thoughts? Also Also—that photo is in "fresh build status" meaning that the burrs and CA gel build ups are going to go away a bit as I move towards the finish line.

Still tinkering in the cockpit? That is not a bad thing, because with these WWI planes a surprising amount can be seen due to the lack of a canopy. So, keep tinkering until you are happy.

Remco!

Yes, thank you for writing! I’m still learning how the original cockpit was designed so this is learning by building, which I suppose is generally what model building is—discovery of how something is designed, how it was built, what materials and methods of manufacturing were employed—it’s not simply the fantasy of actually flying an aircraft; it’s well… assimilation would be the word!

Bravo Bruce!!! :shoutout: :shoutout: :shoutout: Just seeing that assembly in relationship to your thumb and thumbnail gives a true indication of how small of an item that you are creating! :wow: Tiny stuff! And VERY WELL DONE!

So I've done a bunch of cleanup work and started adding some other details. I'm officially on Step 3 of the instructions now!

Keep plugging away at it, Bruce. You got this. I have 3 biplanes in my stash - the 1/48 scale Stearman and 1/32 Academy Sopwith Camel, and 1/48 Roden(?) Po-2.

Thanks, Tom. I appreciate your encouragement. I have some Wingnut Wings and other Eduard kits in my inventory; looks like I’ll be getting one of the Sopwiths out when the John Eaton Memorial Build begins.
