I think the soft, almost pastel look—chalky or powdery—is one of the most difficult tasks there is. You really did it so well, and now with shiny silver tail and added decals the a/c looks just right!!

In 1/72 I am curious have you tried an entire aircraft paneling using drafting pencil? I know you were using pencil to add, but I wonder... it’s an effect in 1/32 I have to make using cutting tools, but here... like that fella on Britmodeler here in 1/72 this could address issues of panel assembly at scale....

Thanks Bruce. Actually I really started to like that Phantom beside this really bad kit by Hasegawa.
Regarding the top-side gray FS16440, it seems to be very sensitive regarding different kinds of light and their temperatures. This time as I had shown before, I tried a new technique I learned from a Dutch mate: Black primer and applying thin layers to emphasize structures.

I used no pencils so far for the Phantom. But I used those to structure my entire MiG-28. But I think you know that already.

That's a lovely clean looking build - I like it.

The metallic tail sections are very nicely done - much better than my attempt on the F-4 I'm building at present. How did you go about it?

Hey mate. For NMF-finishes and structures I almost every time use Valleyo Metal Color. In this case I started with masking followed by their gloss black primer.
Then I used as first layer “dull aluminum” and then single layers without masking and wet-to-wet “exhaust-manifold”, “aluminum”, “dark aluminum” until it had the look you see now. Some small areas were pointed with edding silver markers or liquid chrome marker.
Nozzles were airbrushed separately.

Here comes my overview. Compared to last year I am a bit slow.
If you are looking for vintage kits I would suggest old Esci Jets. Most of them have nice surfaces with engraved panels. I recommend Skyhawks or Crusaders.
One of the best vintage kits for piston fighters is in my opinion the Me 109K by Heller.
To have fun and just fun take a Matchbox...a Wellington e.g.

The Fine Molds is surely a good choice to build a 109K.
AZ or another company is doing a brand new mold.
But to be honest I would prefer Heller. Always. Great kit.
Go the way with old kits. Make it simple and you won't be disappointed.
