Sketch time is the best time!
I really dig the concept. May I suggest to put one of the two main elements just a tad out of the diagonal. I think twisting the vehicle a few degrees would decentralize the arrangement.
Also kudos for dealing with this little bitch of a kit.

Thank you for your suggestion! Is this better?? It is a slightly better sketch, at least. I extended the items tossed out by scavengers or by the crew to the limits of the edge on either side as well. I do think this not so subtly ties directly to being challenged by the kit... or is it by armor building, or simply lack of patience or all of the above?mostrich wrote:Sketch time is the best time!

sketch following mostrich’s idea / input

To paraphrase KennyX: “I built this shit fast to get to the painting.” I am trying to be patient. Sketches help.
Progress!

Here at the locations indicated I am going to shave off the fender locator pin and what may be a latch of some kind, then add back just the latch with styrene:

Engine detail reference from a replica:

It appears I need to open up the closed side door interior:

Oh, this looks like a real drive train, chassis and tracks:

Dear Dragon,
It’s official. We aren’t gonna be buddies. Why did you provide engine compartment doors which open and no engine? Sigh. I started scratchbuilding a Maybach L41. Right now it looks like an oversized Tic-Tac, however, I assure you, once I attach stretched sprue and whatever automotive parts or even aircraft engine parts, hm, hmm! to this engine block this will transform! Yes, this will be the foundation for something resembling an engine. I can see it now taking shape in my mind's eye... or at least, that is the current fantasy. Seriously, though, I think this is gonna work as long as the firewall still fits behind it.

Oh nice!! You’ve made excellent progress since the last pics you showed me! And like I said before, I’m backing this diorama project 100%. This subject is way too cool not to be a part of a diorama, and knowing you, you’re going to give 110% to the construction and painting, it’ll turn out too good not to part of a diorama.

Accidentally double-posted the comment.

Mucho improvemento! Nature doesn't know straight lines, my art teacher ones told me. As a photographer I'm always triying to find them, in dioramas it's a challenge to avoid them. But in the end it's always a question of personal taste.
Punch it, baby...
