1/35 Meng Sd. Kfz. 182 King Tiger (Henschel) - My First Tank

One of my other hobbies is gunsmithing so I always have a bottle of blue for screws and things like that so its convenient for me. I built a AK74 from a parts kit a few years ago and a friend of mine has a hot parkerizing tank and that's what I treated the metal with, always wanted to dip some tracks in it to see what they would turn out like. With parkerizing you take it out of the hot solution tank and straight into cool water, from that you need to dunk them in oil to keep them from flash rusting. If you try this stuff and they do get that dark metal and rust effect at the same time it might be worth getting a bottle.

I know parkerizing... my Dad said the old Colt blueing solution was boiling gasoline—how is that possible?? I built my speaker stands with welded steel coated with Tung oil. I like that. John—The hobby bottles look to be about the same size as the blueing ones I remember using growing up, however I completely support using the modeling versions. There are extra links you can use for testing or really you can use any white metal pieces in your spares box.

The Interior Set is inbound from China and the metal tracks are coming from Russia. Both have long ship times and are scheduled for a mid-April arrival.

I'm just venting some excitement... trying to keep the patience in check while waiting for things to arrive. I could've spent $10 more and Sprue Brothers would've have delivered by now. I have more than enough to keep me occupied once the tracks and interior set arrive but I can't stop my wandering eye from noticing possible add-ons. One of them, which I first noticed when you referenced the MIG Special Edition King Tiger 1945, is an infra-red scope.





As far as I know, it was never deployed on a Tiger but I thought it looked cool.

Haha! I meant no sarcasm but I think my earlier reply could be worded better. Apologies! I am excited, too. Believe me! Stoked! I still have a search running for King Tigers. My search for a Tamiya kit was sidetracked by Jerry Rutman’s 1/32 resin Henschel Hs 129 briefly—Luftwaffe’s Warthog.

Think Panthers only got them but not sure. Does that kit also have the generator? It would replace one of the ammo racks on the commanders side.

Reading some older books, and official histories, the Panther and Jagdtiger at some point or another each had some type with the IR night vision gear equipment from December 1944 on. That’s a nice addition. And I’m willimg to bet, like Luftwaffe ‘46 subjects, had the war gone on longer, King Tigers would have received the gear as well.

Looks like a “What if,” although I read online that a unit of Tigers with FG 1250 Vampyr equipment entered a conflict in Hungary. Is there any way to confirm this? Also— Is there any way to confirm the barrel color?
