So this is the other old tool build I have on the go at the moment, FROGs old Wildcat kit from an early bagged release. built OOB with Humbrol Acrylic Gull grey below and Humbrol Enamel Intermeadiate blue on top. Canopy was painted freehand and will be cleaned up with a toothpick at a later date (I can't stand masking canpoies!)
It's not a bad little kit - looks like a Wildcat although a little sparse in detail. I've made a bit of a mess of the U/C but I should be able to sort it out.
The decals are knackard so I need to get some more - but other rhan that it's been a fun little build.
Thanks for looking.
Cheers
Stuart

That is funny. I don't think the real Wildcat had much in the way of detail!
There two more parts.

Great - so it's actually highly accurate then!

Honestly though it doesn't look to be a bad kit at all. You're off to a great start too. I've seen a lot of nicely done hand painted cockpit frames...I hate masking them myself...if it weren't for die-cut masks I don't know if I'd build as many planes as I do.
ooooh I love die-cut masks - I've used them on all the 1/48th kits I've played with. However in 1/72, whilst using a hairy stick it's sometimes easier to do without - especially if you are a bit slapdash like me.
FROG kits are ok - they're just 'of their time' - The correct shapes are generally there, but they lack things like cockpit and wheelwheel detail, and the radial engines are a bit simple. Someone like BSY who loves scratch building interior detail would have a field day. I've built about four now and they were all fun builds.
Cheers (and thanks)

ok, sorry for poor pictures but I thought I'd show you I've been trying to break up the hard edged demarkation line by useing a hard brisled brush and dry dabbing paint over the edge. It's nottoo bad... bit more practice maybe.
Cheers
