Another "shelf of doom build", a kitbash of an MPM XP-47H and an Academy P-47.

I did some research and I started this kit 5 years ago....

The idea to kitbash these two kits was to take advantage of the better detail of the Academy kit and to build a more accurate XP-47H. The MPM kit is not that good. It conforms to the MPM plans those are quite inaccurate, the scope is to far forward and the belly to fat.

Here is what I have done before putting the kit away in the box:






However, when retreving this kit from the box I found that the mpm and academy parts had seperated. So this will have to be reglued. I will have to do this better this time because I do not want the pieces to come of when the model is finished!

Whoops! The parts have separated?? What glue did you use?

I used MEK and the back was reenforced with plastic strip. So you would think that this would hold.....

Here is how I found it in the box. I already had done some work on the exhaust. And glued the cockpit in before painting, what was I thinking?



Here is a pic to show how the MPM kit is inaccurate. Not only is the intake under the nose is to far forward, belly to deep and the roof has vertical line instead of horizontal.

That's really strange!

Did some minor work yesterday, I opened several intakes. All the MPM parts are closed (remember, this is an early MPM kit)








I also added some plastic card to close the gap that I made by moving the intake rearward.

keep it going Borg, looks pretty good and like a challenging build. You can do that.

No easy build for sure, but what a different sight when finished!

A small text update, I have beeing doing some minor work, scratchbuilding intakes and exhaust. I want these in place before joining the fuselage halves.

And I have beeing doing some research about the interior color. As always, there is some debate about this: Zinc Chromate Green? Yellow? Bronze Green? An article on IPMS Stockholm suggest Dull Dark Green for the cockpit and Zinc Chromate Yellow for the wheel wells and other interior parts. I think I wil be goign with that. I also foun some Eduard seatbelts which I will add. I think the Academy kit need no further detailing for a closed canopy build.
