Supermarine Spitfire Mk. Vb

Post by LyleW »

Here is the kit. A "Dogfight Double" as it were.

Pretty sure it will be OOB since I've bought nothing extra. The molding on this guy seems pretty spiffy (pun intended). Quite fine and detailed to my eye.

here are some updates. Nice kit. Good fit. Lot's of fiddly bits for stiff old hands. These are over several weeks.

Sprues and some detail.

Far more detail than I will use, see or "detail" out. Nice, nonetheless.

Interior as it is. Still some touch up to do. The included Humbrol paints are working out pretty good.

Image

Sort of sloppy, but at least they are in place. Only complaint so far are the sometimes, barely there locating marks/pins/slots/etc.

Image

The tub closed up and in place. Some fit issues that were self-inflicted.

Image

Image

Fuselage closed up nicely. Honestly, this is the first time I've had great success with the Tamiya Extra Thin.

Image

Why such puny pieces to mount the landing gear?

Image

Wings on. A bit of a step on the port side.

Image

Image

Again, some self-inflicted fit issues with the cockpit cowling. Nothing major as I've not had to break out the Bondo yet. Some Mr. Dissolved Putty and some steel wool buffing should manage the problem. Wings and horizontal stabs fit very well.

And, that is where I'm at to date. Computer is having a severe reaction to something. soooooo........

Thanks, Stuart. This is one of the easiest to assemble that I've come across so far.

Thanks, Manny! I guess I have to break out the paint next. Prime, pre-shade, and well you know.

paint by hand, not bsy by any means. sucks, really. started on decaling the craft and the wheels on the bus started wobbling if not coming off. They seem rather thick and the port side roundel with lettering came apart on me. Then a couple others moved and folded over. I finally got it mostly straightened out, but. Pics when i feel like it, maybe. Argh.
