It's fascinating to think that this famous bird was designed by the Britts and built by the yanks.
A great collection of the 'Tangs" here and a pleasure to look at mate. :-)

it was designed by a
german,
ordered by the brits, and built by the yanks.
the chief designer at NAA had already drawn up the basics of the design, and tweaked it to match British stipulations

Very nice - I remember reading a book on how the Royal Navy were planning on shooting these down using F-4's with no guns over Belize (I think Rocket pods were the answer) - and then the GR.3s arrived.
Harrier GR.3 vs. F-51D - now that would be an interesting dogfight...
