SPA Modeler

This was put off almost a year now. With warm weather and summer upon us, I'm looking forward to actually finishing this kit. First, a few pics of what I have done thus far:

Majority of the kit is assembled and awaiting for paint for the invasion stripes - which I am hoping to get done soon. Pics will follow but for now I have these:

I used Model Master Black Detail Wash on these in my first attempt at weathering.

I discovered a technique somewhere on how to make propellers look worn and chipped. I didn't think I did too bad of a job considering.




Wasn't sure if I'm happy with the way the yellow decal stripes or the way the bombs turned out but meh... what do I care? Bombs were also given a little coat of black detail wash as well. Wiping a bit of the wash off wasn't too hard to do if I was careful not to over do it.

By far my favorite kit. Pure modeling bliss. I'm looking forward to this one. So whats the technique with the prop? that looks great...

First, I usually prime all my major pieces.

The technique for the propellers I used is spray paint the entire propeller unit aluminum. Then I airbrush several light coats of yellow on the prop blade tips. I then mask off the yellow tips and paint the prop blades flat black. After that, I shoot a light coat of grey to cut down the black somewhat. Once everything is dried, I take a piece of course sanding block or Xacto blade and lightly scruff the edges to Make them look weathered and beaten. When you do that, you peel off the underlying aluminum paint underneath.

Finally, I added decals, set them with Micro Set and Micro Sol and a coat of flat clear coat to seal them in.

One last thing I like to do is add a little Testors Black Detail Wash on the whole thing, let it dry then wipe off as much as I want. Doing so also tones down the shiny prop blade markings. A final coat of flat clear coat for the final finish.
