Hi All,

I just started yet another wip, so I thought I'd post it up, I'm building this...



Hasegawa's Mig-27D. I'm rather in to these old Hasegawa kits at the moment and this one is certainly vintage. The detail is a bit basic but the fit is not bad, and although it has (gasp) raised panels lines they are nicely done - it's certainly very buildable.

This is what's in the box, not a great deal as you can see...



And this shows the highly detailed and accurate cockpit...



So off we go - this'll be a OOB build, but fun anyway!

So here's where I am now - assembled the rear fuselage and started laying down basic paint.





There're a couple of bad sink marks along the rear of the fuse, so I've added a bit of tamiya basic putty to them and the seams.



I've not used Tamiya basic putty before so we'll see how it goes.

Actually although I was going for an OOB buildI don't think I can live with the total lack of detail in the cockpit so I might add in this...



Yes it's for a BAE Hawk but I find these Hawk PE sets really useful for sorting out the cockpits in old jet kits - the instruments look ok for 'classic' jets and because the side panels are not shaped they're easier to fit - AND you can sort out two kits with one PE set! (Unless it's a two seater)
We're talking 'appearance' of detail rather than accuracy!

So that's my tip of the day if you enjoy playing with these older kits!

This is just a great plane and therefore automatically a great build!

Smart idea with the PE sets! :-)

I passed on this kit when I saw it at a show cause it had raised panel lines. I hate them with a passion!!

Can't wait to see more of the build!

A tip on using Tamiya putty: when the putty is still wet you can wipe the excess of with a qtip soaked in nail polish remover (with acetone). That saves you from a lot of sanding. Or you could thin the putty in nail polish remover and use a small brush to apply it sparingly.

So that's the same kit but with recessed panel lines correct?

there you go Medic - that's your answer! No raised panels!
