SPA Modeler

I am building this up for a GB that I am running elsewhere. It should be a quick easy build as it is not a complicated kit at all. I am building it up in the markings of an Iraqi as used in the 1991 Gulf War

so here is my kit



I mixed up a custom steel shade for the link and length tracks and airbrushed that on





and I started with building the lower hull... it was a bottom plate with teh sides and rear plates added. I am going a bit out of sequence, but oh well...





and then I scratch built up the jerry can racks with "L" ange strip styrene for the upper rear hull and test fitted some jerry cans in there. I still need to improve the cans a bit, but they are only placed for now, not glued, until I improve them...

It's a funny looking beast the BMP - Great start Stick!

Thank you Port. Yes, the BMP is something of an odd duck. Not quite a tank, but more than a simple APC.

I think has that ugly and angry look that a lot of soviet vehicles have.

I take it from that front end its an amphibian?

It is kind of cool - I first remember reading about BMP's in the novel Team Yankee - I had to go out and find what they looked like. Are you going to do a T-72 to go with it Stick?

Borg, it is indeed a classic Soviet AFV. Low silhouette, fast, hard hitting, and cramped inside... LOL!

Port, yes, it can swim, with minimal preparation compared to Western designs that also can swim. But no plans for me to build a T-72 anytime soon. These actually have served alongside Soviet MBTs from the T-55 to the T-72.

Ooh this is a cool one!
Remember when I was in the military service in 1988 (Finnish army), every now and then we saw them in some excersises.. Just remember how much exhaust gas came from them.. Thick black smoke... And the smell was not so good...

Oh those where the days... Happy we have some western stuff nowadays...

yeah, good ole diesel fumes... give me that smell under hot weather conditions and I can see myself back in the TC or Drivers hatch of a track once upon a time...

More progress today, but I am not quite following the instruction sheet order... nor showing these in the order that I did the work earlier today...
I did about 2/3 of the work on the turret...



some work on the upper hull, but I left off the small breakables until after I get it glued to the lower hull



small bits added to the front and rear of the lower hull





and the running gear added... I left the sprocket wheels loose until the tracks are added for fine tuning the position of those with the link & length tracks



some test fitting of all the major components





and a better look at the jerry can racks that I made up... I need to go back and modify them a bit as well as the cans...
