Being a sucker for late mark Spifires, there was no stopping when Eduard released their boxing of the Airfix F.24. The latter being, IMHO, one of the best Airfix kits ever.

Basically, the Eduard boxing of the F.24 leaves nothing to be desired, however, I decided to replace both propeller spinner, blades and the kit's canopy with aftermarket items.
The propeller assembly being replaced with a resine KMC set and the canopy with a Falcons Clear Vax vacuformed canopy.

Supermarine Spitfire F.24, No. 80 Squadron RAF, Hong Kong 1950



No. 80 Sqn relocated to Hong Kong in July 1949 (the Tempests having been replaced by Supermarine Spitfire F.24s in 1948). During the Chinese Civil War, 80 Sqn's main duty was to defend Hong Kong from perceived Communist threats. The Spitfires departed in 1951, replaced by the de Havilland Hornet, and the squadron remained in Hong Kong until being disbanded on 1 May 1955.



The model was painted using Gunze Mr.Hobby acrylics, mainly applying layer blending and postshading techniques.



Top coat: Polly Scale flat varnish.



Depicting a post war Spitfire, I somewhat contained myself in weathering the model.

I really like your Spit. The giant spinner along with the five blade prop makes it look very powerful.

This is perfection!! This is one kit I want to get my hands on as well. How did you mask the spinner and get such a nice line between the blue and the white?

There's an engraved joint providing the colours' demarcation line.
So it's quite easy to apply a mask all around the joint.



I'm using PVC masking tape to mask curved areas or tight radii.

I cut it into narrow strips and lay it alongside the respective structures.
Due to its flexiblity it nestles up wonderfully against the surface. In turn, less curved and adjacent areas will be then masked with TAMIYA tape.
