Just wondering if anyone has built Academy's 1/48 EF-111A. I picked up one yesterday as a "just because" purchase. I've seen some reviews where they say that the kit is garbage and others who claim the kit is decent. I know its an older kit, late '90's if I'm not mistaken, but it supposedly has recessed panel lines, which, if that is the case on an older kit like that, would be pretty nice.

Sorry but I'm cannot help you, I have not build that kit.

I have their F-111E kit in my stash, which is the same basic moldings with version specific parts. Yes it has recessed panel lines, but it actually dates from the early 90s or so. It is ok, detail wise, although some areas such as the afterburners and cockpit can use help. I have not built mine yet, so I cannot comment as to fit. I do not believe that any kit is garbage. At least none molded by a mainstream company in the last 40 years that is not a clone/pirate/rip off. But some require more work and skill than others do.

I did not put a lot of weight into the reviews who said that the product was garbage, basically because they didnt offer up any details about why they felt it deserved such a negative review. I'm actually looking forward to working with it...down the road sometime in the future. My stash is definitely starting to take shape....and I love it!

Italeri reissued that kit back in 2010 and it didn't get that bad reviews. I've read that the Hobby Boss Aardvaark has more shape issues than the Academy/Minicraft one.

Got these today in the mail. From an individual on the internet sight that is giving JimD fits. This guy, Ray Norton, seems pretty much on the up and up.

Lousy picture, but that's ok. You can tell what it is. I've used it a bit on small gaps, holes, dimples, etc. I like it so far. I've kept the long tapered tip that comes with it clipped t a very small opening and plug it with a pin.

I just got my first tube of DPP as well, I havent had a chance to try it out yet, but soon...very soon!

Nice new collection, Lyle. I am done with the Voodoo and half way through the Shinmeiwa. Alas, your pics just reminded me to get with the PS-1 before years end.

Monty, where the heck have you been! Good to hear from you, and all that stuff.....I'll have to go back and study your WIP on the PS-1 to see what you did with the nacelles.

Welcome back Monty! I have that Shinmeiwa as well and I want to see more of your work on it. I may be starting mine fairly soon, along with a Martin Mariner and a Be-6 Madge. Gonna have my own little Flying Boats Group Build going.
