Hello all,

The weekend was great and after visiting the big expo I brought a very cool bust home. Of course there are other projects on my bench, but most of them are almost complete ("Birds of Prey" for example)...



or stopped due to a spare part problem (T-34/76 > waits for Friuls).

The kit Im talking about connects two major interests: Japan and - no surprise - busts.



Some words about the kit itself:

All parts are cast in resin. It seems there are two different kinds of resine - his head is a tick darker. I dont care, as long as the details are good, and they really really are. I talked to the salesman about the main issue of the figure: the bent katana.



He offered me a solution, if this wont help he talked me to contact him again and hell take care about a spare part. Other painters state the same problem. Nothing that cant be fixed I guess - theres PE sheet, metal sheets and similar.

Ah, have seen you post this new figure on Facebook. What can I say? Well, the sculpting is over the top amazing! You must have paid a high price for such a top bust...
But I am sure, having seen your previous work, that this bust again will develop under your modelling skills!

The cost was 49,95€. If you regard the craftmanship behind such busts, the imagination etc this is a very fair price.

Another example: Tyrion Lannister stood right next to this figure. He was smaller in the same scale (hes allowed to, because he is a "half-man" ) but cost 10 bucks more. Consists of two pieces: torso and head. Thats it. I guess that has something to do with a "cult factor" of Game of Thrones or something. Nevertheless a beauty.

Or lets take Games Workshop - there are certain figures that cost around 20€ each - and were talking about 28mm stuff.



On the other hand I turn to pay more for better quality than to save money on the wrong spot. Saves me nerves and time.


A propos: Except the katana problem all pieces almost fell together. Here and there a bit of cutting and trimming - the usual stuff - thats it. Even better: The katana problem could be solved with hot water at the first trial.

A straight and sharp Katana! Should be a great tool for modelling!

This would be the most expensive tool Ive ever used then.

And there he comes...

Thomas' AB was the tool of the day again and brought on the medium blue perfectly. This was followed by 50 lighter shades of blue (not grey ), after all I washed the kimono with a very thin dark blue.

Typical for the 19th century policemen - thats what the shinsengumi were actually - is the blue/white pattern shown here. I only wonder what the sign on the base means, my Japanese is a bit rusty.

Very lovely, precise work. I think the sign means, "With two you get eggroll."

Great looking figure though - I'll be looking forward to seeing what you do with it.

The face is very detailed and deserves a special treatment. It has been painted with Vallejo "Panzer Ace" colors, which - to my surprise - are perfect for brushing. As always, Washings were done with GW brownish shades and a bit of red.
