I snatched up this little kit at an estate-sale/giveaway that was hosted by my IPMS club. Apparently its the same mold as the italeri/zvezda kit, but with added resin goodies.



No decals were included in the baggie, but I have plenty of spare ruskie markings (again thanks to the estate sale!).

The resin pit builds up nicely, but was a little lackluster in the details department IMO...Things started to get ugly when I glued the fuse together: the plastic is hard and kind of brittle, and doesnt fit very well. Moving on to the wings? GAPS GALORE! And why the heck did they put a big seamline running through the gear wells?!?



I based the camo and marking off this profile


I hand-painted this one. I was originally planning on setting up the airbrush, but after one stressful week I wanted something calming to do. Its just MM enamels and a brush

As I was getting ready for final pics, my bird got spooked by something (?!) and flew around the room in a tizzy. He crash landed on the mig, and knocked it to the ground! I was not able to find the broken prop blade...

What kind of bird do you have? We have a tomcat (Terror-Cat! ) that is allowed to sleep in our modelling room as long as some one is in, too. But things like this what happened to your MiG makes us leave the room when we go...

Owl, this is maybe not the most well designed kit! A seam line down the LG bay? Tsstsstss... But I see you managed to get a nice putty and sand job down on this. I only wonder what´s this red putty? Mine are mostly grey or green.

The finish you achieved by brush painting is very well done! Amazing! It really looks like a weather beaten Russian warbird. I like this dusty appearance!

It's not bird damaged - it's obviously a battle damaged Mig that got caught on the ground!

Great stuff - I really like your brush painting as always - and as Thomas said, well done with that seam in the wheel well.

I have a cockatiel named Donny. And this isnt the first time he's tried to "help" with my modeling...

hehe, my go-to putty is a tube of handy-dandy BONDO. You can find it pretty cheap at any auto-parts store for about 5 or 6 bucks. One tube lasted me about 3 years!

Donny is my baby. Ive had him since he was only 3 months old.

I snagged the same kit a couple few years back, for a buck...it was almost worth it!!!

Definitely almost, especially if you want a MiG-3.....


But the flaws of the kit detract nothing of your modelling skills Owl. It is a very nice whiff.

I hope you find a replace for the propeller in future
