This is Trumpy's 1/72 F-107. I got the kit on the cheap, so I decided to experiment a little as practice for an F-100 build slated for the not too distant future! In addition to that, I decided on a what-if "B" model in active service, based in the Nam, with markings from the spares box and extras from an F-105(kinda fitting!).
Anyway, the main experiment was with the heavy chipping/fading of the paint on the tail area. I used hairspray between paint coats and brushed/scrubbed away the paint, to get the effect seen on F-100's. Only additions were stores, antennas, pilot and seat from an F-4, rescribe(to even em up) and I threw a bunch of rivets at it!

Saw this on another thread at a different spot. I like the SEA pattern and the weathering you did on the tail with the hairspray. I've got to say, I've never tried it before, but you made it look awesome! Excellent job man!

Way to go Fermis! That paint wear on the rear engine exhaust looks spot on; you really have a gift for that. You did an outstanding job on what I always thought was a supremely ugly aircraft with the intakes above the cockpit. I do have to ask, since this is a Wild Weasel (WW tail markings) where are the anti-radar missiles and/or cluster bombs?

Duke...the wild weasel thing did cross my mind....and those markings came from a 105 that was a wild weasel...but there's also tail codes "JB" that was a wild weasel as well (that's the 105 I'll be doing)....so WW doesn't necessarily have to mean Wild Weasel...right???!!! To be completely honest, I don't care real hard about the letters...they look the part, as far as I'm concerned. I thought it kinda fitting/plausable that they came from a 105, since the 105 beat out the 107..."what if" that didn't happen?!!!
And, the bombs...well, the powers that be ask the designers for a FIGHTER...the best fighter than can imagine (which the 107 was, according to the test pilots), then they insist on slinging bombs from it.

Great explanation Fermis. You're right about the WW tail codes. And it is very plausible.

I find it interesting that this was such a great fighter. I would have guessed that the only real flaw in the design was the restricted field of vision to the rear. As I recall the MiG-21 had a similar issue. I could only imagine those intakes would have caused that issue. Otherwise, with those lines; she looks like she could scream all over the sky and take out anything.

And then; as you say, they slung bombs on her....

Hunting...well...not great. Work had me pretty tied up. Only got out a handful of times.
I did take a decent doe back in Oct. Got a chance yesterday morning...a "cheater" chance. Stepped out the door to go to work, saw the deer out of the corner of my eye...grabbed my crossbow and got a shot. It flinched/ducked and just got grazed across the back. Left a pile of hair but the arrow came back clean. Now, that deer has a bald spot and an education! The 12 shots had on deer with the crossbow all resulted in meat in the freezer...guess there's a first time for everything. At least I didn't put a mortal wound on it and not recover it....those hurt the heart and mind.

Yeah, I'd park her right beside Major Schmenk's Vietnam bird. It's easy to see the shared lineage.

I haven't taken a deer yet. My son-in-law and I went out last Saturday and saw two young bucks-not enough spread to take. We did see a huge coyote and Robert was taking aim when he ran into the brush. "missed it by that much..." Oh well, still have until Jan.4 I'm not giving up.
