1/72 F-8E Crusader as First 2016 Build

Hi Guys - did this 1/72 scale model of the F-8E Crusader over the couse of the New Year. Happy to share this with you all
A well engineered kit, fantastic Cartograf decals made this project a pleasent exercise. It was all a 'feel good' project, something to finish quickly at the start of the year.
I wish i had chosen a lighter panel wash as the back was a bit overwhelming.
It builds into a tiny model. All around detail is top notch. But it has its flaw. Like the Sidewinders are the later models, not the D which it used in Vietnam
If i had to do it again, i would probably tone done the decals more to make it looked 'weathered'.
First time i used the combination of Mr. Mark Setter and Mr. Mark Softer. Very powerful stuff. It was really worth it. I will try again so to know if the results are consistent.

Great looking Crusader Monty! Love the detailing. As for the newer version Sidewinders...you could just say its a "What-if" build if they brought them out of the Boneyard back to active duty.

What magnificent work Monty! This is the second Crusader I've seen that makes me want to pull one from my stash to build. I think I'm gong to finish a Crusader this year. Way to go!

I like that idea. I think I will stick with this storyline.

Duke - happy to hear that. as for me, I am thinking heavily on to do a US Marine version. i am so hooked up on the Cartograf decals. I had decal issues with the Fulcrum and Starfighter. just plain headache. This one is a respite, real soothing.

Looks fabulous there Monty. Gorgeous weathering! And the Sidewinders look to be the proper type to my eye. They are not the double delta canards of the L/M or the cranked arrow canards of the J.

Lvely Crusader, the paintwork outstanding, as well as the weathering !
I would not have even paid attention to wrong sidewinders or actually, I still do not pay attention to that.
