Testors releasing new colors?

Post by BlackSheep214 »

Just stopped by Squadron and Sprue Brothers sites and noticed Testors have come out with brand new acrylic colors. Squadron appears to have colors that match Pollyscale colors (Testors 5000 series)

Sprue Brothers has a few Testors colors looks to be similar as Citadel War Gaming colors. (Testors 4300, 4400 series)

The Railroad colors have been out for several months now. I think at least back to mid summer last year. I grabbed a few at the local RR hobby store near me. Unfortunately they do not match the old Floquil RR colors of the same name. The Engine Black is just black, no extra fade or anything fancy to it that was so wonderful about all the Floquil/PolyScale blacks that they used to have. The Earth is much darker than the Floquil shade- which really sucks, as the original RR color was a great substitute for the color used on US vehicles field applied in Saudi for Desert Shield/Desert Storm.

The other two color lines sound to be revamps of their fantasy figure and marine color lines. MM Acryls are still low on my favor list due to their less than stellar qualities. Particularly adhesion, and hardness after curing.

It almost seems that Testors is responding to some customer letters, but, didn't fully understand what the letters said.

I wrote them a while back, and told them that I would return as a customer if they brought back *paints* like the Polly Scale Reefer White, since it was one of the best Acrylic White paints in the business.

Sure enough, they now have a Reefer White,,,,,,,,,,but, it is in the MM Acrylic line. I, of course meant the paint *formula*, not the color just transferred to MM Acrylics.

I got a laugh at the idea that a customer can know differences in paint formulas, but a model paint company can't seem to grasp that idea. Right now, I am sure there are Testors people walking around trying to figure how to sell an Acrylic paint that sticks and works like Polly Scale,,,,,,,,without even knowing that their corporation already owns that formula.

geez (puts on Rocket Surgeon hat, hmmmm, "let's manufacturer the Polly Scale formula and brand it with the Testors labels, and sell it to modelers as a paint that works")
