Hi all,

This is my first ever fully-built by me completed Armour build Airfix's 1/76 Vickers Light Tank mk.IV.

The kit was mounted on an old CD along with some Airfix 1/76 British infantry figures. the scene is uspposed to depict the BEF in retreat to Dunkirk in 1940.


I have an idea of doing a mirror to this build, set in Normandy in June 1944 - showing a later tank such as a Firefly with the turret facing forward.

I have to say I enjoyed this kit, it made a nice change from the usual aircraft kits.

lol - yes it is small - the body is about the size of my thumb without the turret and tracks.

That looks excellent. Although I've always hated the look of this little tank, you've done a magnificent job on it. I'm looking forward to seeing the follow-on diorama. Way to go!

Curious to know more about the base, how did you build that? Yes, on top of a CD, but then.... :-)

Ah the base - I took part in a GB on another forum over christmas were the objective was to build a diorama within the confines of a DVD/CD, nothing was allowed to overhang the edge - you wouldn't believe the level of creativity - One chap even managed a 1/72 Glider!

Anyway - I built up the area under the tree with an tube of squadron green filler (a mistake as it happens as it's warped the DVD) and then covered everything in a white acrylic paste (the type painters use to add volume to their paint). While this was wet I used the tank to make the track marks and then pushed the tank and the figures into the paste while it was wet.

Once it dried they were fixed into place, so I then painted the track marks with dark earth and weathering powders and flocked everything else.

I really enjoyed this build and learnt a few things about making dios.

Wait... a 1/72 scale glider on a CD? I gotta see this. I can see maybe 1/144 scale glider.... LOL!
