Scrapped the seats, control sticks in favor of making my own, as well as some other details...



Pit stuff painted up...using stretched sprue to fill up the panel trenches. It's retarded...very fine raised detail, along with trenches that would be huge in 32nd scale.



Outer details have been stripped and all sanded smooth...cut the openings for the vents. Gonna fill those with some scrap PE stuff (not accurate, but will look better)



Fuselage together...scribed, riveted, some details added.
The door windows fit like... [hmm] ...like something that doesn't fit good. Used some stretched sprue and CA to fill in around the edges...sanded/polished. She's a tail sitter right now...but just the windscreen piece is enough to make it sit right (I also crammed lead in behind the IP, before I knew if it was needed or not).





The rotor blades are stupid thick, so I made some new ones...

Cool! Does the 58D not have the armored seats like the older 58A? I can't remember if they did or not when I flew in one ages ago...

It was an armor "plate", mounted to the bulkhead. It has a trigger mechanism so it car be opened/swung out to make getting in and out easier. I cut the molded parts off...they were really thick. I'll replace them a little later.



The kit didn't come with any weapons or mounts for weapons. I had a hard time tracking down any pics of this particular D version that didn't have any weapons or the back windows fared over. Thought I was gonna hafta do a lot more work...but then I found a coulpe pics, supporting only what the kit provides.

I actually wanted an old school, 2 blade 58...just because those are what I remember always being around the airfield when I was growing up (Hueys, Cobras and 58s)

Right... got ya... I crossed paths a lot more with the 58 A& C than the D... although those were nowhere near as mean as the D... but yeah, like you, lots of time spent around that trio of choppers before the Blackhawk and Apache... years and years of hearing the wop wop wop of Huey's and Cobras...

Scratched up some final details....cable cutters, a few antennas, and "helped" the tail rotorhead.

Got it painted up.
I got some real nice variation in the paint...camera doesn't even try to pick it up though.

Well done, Fermis! A tiny one at that too for 1/72 scale!

Great finish there Fermis! The weathering really stands out properly on the finished build photos.

Believe it or not...I didn't do any weathering, beyond using the airbrush...no washes, no pastels...it's all paint!
